Lossless and high-speed digital design: wavelet transform and deep learning perspective.

Dr Hasan received his Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan  in 2019. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Lakehead University. His research mostly centers around the digital circuit and system design. In his Ph.D. study, he developed a general method of designing real-time, high-speed, low-cost, and lossless circuits for digital signal processing algorithms (focussing on wavelet transform) using FPGA and ASIC.


The design of digital circuits which can process information without any loss is crucial to maintain the quality of the information for many critical applications. In the first part of the talk, I will discuss the lossless digital implementation of state-of-the-art information processing engine “wavelet transform”. I will elaborate on some of the fundamental contributions regarding this. In the last part of the talk, I will introduce the future research plan about the high-speed digital hardware architecture design focussing on hardware acceleration of deep learning based on the findings in the first part and existing literature. I will also present a research plan complementing current research activities in the department.
