The Department of Electronics sadly announces the passing of Professor Emeritus Miles Alexander Copeland. He died peacefully on April 27, 2016 at Kingston General Hospital and will be missed by his colleagues, and previous students at Carleton University. Miles was a much admired man with a brilliant and inquisitive mind, but also known for his generosity as a mentor to countless students. An IEEE Fellow, Professor Copeland was recently awarded the prestigious Pederson Award for his pioneering work in solid-state circuit design. Before his academic career Miles also served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a jet fighter pilot. Despite being in his 80s, Miles spent considerable time educating himself on the nuances of all the latest computer and smartphone technology, such was his thirst for knowledge. To celebrate his extraordinary life, a memorial service followed by reception will be held Saturday, May 28 11 a.m. at Riverside United Church, 3191 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, Canada.
